R. v. Civil Service Appeals Board, ex p. Cunningham [1991]

CSAB awarded applicant sum of
£6500 for his unfair dismissal.
Applicant prevented by
legislation from appealing to industrial tribunal, which would have awarded him
far more.
CSAB’s policy was not to give
reasons and it refused to do so.
Court of Appeal imposed duty
to provide reasons on CSAB.
Duty imposed because CSAB was
judicial body performing functions analogous to an industrial tribunal.
Industrial tribunal would
have had to supply reasons hence so should CSAB.
