Lonrho plc v Fayed [1988]

Defendants made fraudulent misrepresentations
about themselves to Secretary of State in order to influence him not to refer
their bid for HF Co to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.
Plaintiffs contended they had thereby been
deprived of the opportunity to bid for HF Co.
Pill J rejected their claim.
Freedom to bid for property neither a
business asset of the plaintiffs nor a legal right which the law would protect.
