Bennet v Bennet [1879]

Jessel MR stated that according to the rules of equity
there is no obligation on a mother to advance or make provision for her child,
although there is for a father.
Hence when mother gives money to son, as here, no
presumption of advancement.
[NB In Nelson v
Nelson [1995]
the Australian courts decided that the presumption now
applied equally to gifts from mother to child]
